Secondary computer storage guide
Secondary computer storage
There are two types of storages in our computer system, one is primary and another is secondary storage, here we are going to discuss about the secondary storage.
The most common secondary computer storage are a cross between two, one is magnetic disk and another is magnetic tape.
As compared to magnetic disk the use of magnetic tape is rare. Most of the home user computers use magnetic tape and magnetic disk.
Magnetic disks, which are mostly used in PC’s, are Diskette or Floppy disk, and hard drives. As compared to floppy disk, hard disk came along with high storage capacity.
We can now store more data in the hard disk and it remains permanent in our computer, while the floppy drive is removable.
A computer can run without a floppy drive but cannot run without a hard disk. As you can see, it is necessary to have a hard disk in every computer today.
Common hard disks are providing unto 120GB of storage capacity, on the other hand the floppy drive which is commonly in 3 ½ of size provides only 1.44MB of storage capacity, which is only helpful to move some important documents, which are less than the 1.44MB.
The other storage’s which are commonly used in today’s computers are Optical disks, like CD and DVD’s, are more reliable and also removable.
