The True Lexmark Printer Review

The Lexmark xl500

After using this product I couldn’t believe the price I purchased this lexmark printer for.

The install went easy, however I did have to buy a USB cable separately (please keep this is in mind as most printers are not shipped with this cable)

You need this cable to hook the printer to the computer so they can communicate with each other. This results in the user being able to perform the desired tasks.

After the printer was installed I had to calibrate the cartridges, this is all very easy and tells you what to do step by step.

Once this was done I had a play around trying scans, copies, and prints.

I was impressed with the speed of this unit. You can adjust the quality of the print within the lexmark software.

For example you can set to normal print, or high quality or low quality. The lower you set the quality the faster the print will be.

However you will obviously lose print quality, which will result in the picture/document being printed to a lower standard.

It is entirely up to you what setting to use for each print. What I do is set it to low if I am just printing out reading material, and I set it to high if I want a good quality picture.

This lexmark printer is pretty stylish for the price it doesn’t look bad but it doesn’t look top of the range either.

For home use in my opinion this lexmark printer is perfect considering its low cost.

Everything you want to do is all in the lexmark software. The software is very easy to use in fact, the easiest I have come across.

Everything is in front of you when you load the software up. You simply click for what you want to achieve. For example to scan you would put what you wanted to scan on to the glass tray underneath the lid, then you simply hit scan to complete the scan to the computer.

You will now be able to print off what ever you scanned in. Copying is just as easy, simply put what ever you want to copy in. Make sure your paper is loaded and "ca-ching" you have a copy printed.

What you have is a printer, scanner, and a copier with a fax you can use via the computers modem, integrated on the software.

(The unit does not have a fax machine it uses the software to use the computers modem.)

All of this for the price of a budget desktop printer, which you can only print!

The downfalls of this printer are the ink cartridges don’t last long, but saying that I did manage to print a 700 page document each A4 and a few pictures etc before I had to replace.

You can buy cartridges here

Even with the more expensive printers the cartridges don’t last an age anyway. Again its nothing major to worry about. I just put a few pennies away when I can, so I have money aside to replace them when need be.

Apart from this, the unit is a good budget printer what you cant go wrong buying for the price.

Another thing worth remembering when buying a printer is if the printer happens to go faulty after 28 days, I would recommend going back to the retailer. This is becasue if the unit can not be fixed, lots of big companies tend to send out refurbished units after the 28day period.

However refurbished units sometimes worry people, but theese units are normally checked and tested. They have to be of very good working order. Before this though it might be worth checking out our troubleshooting section, as there may be some good information for you to try to fix the issue.

The best way to install this Lexmark printer is as follows:

Firstly make sure your operating system is stable and has no viruses.( operating system is just your windows i.e. windows 98,2000,xp are the most popular)

If you think all is ok. make sure you disable your antivirus, it will be located at the bottom right of your screen next to the clock.

Hover over the icons/pictures to see what they are. If you have anything that relates to virus example Norton. Right click on it and disable it. Now insert the lexmark software CD and simply follow the on screen instructions.

Click next when appropriate. Now when it asks you to, insert the USB cable and power on the pc.

The software will now configure and install the device drivers. To simplify - it will install the software to enable you to use the printer.

Now you will have to calibrate the cartridges and then do a system restart if not asked to do so.

So basically restart the computer. Now you are ready.
