hdd information and the possible future of hdds

Hdd

The Hdd is a very important component of your computer. This device is used for storing computer data. It was invented in the 1950’s.

Compared to today’s hard disks they were very large in size, up to 20 inches in diameters, and the storage capacity was also very low in mega bytes.

Today’s hard disks have the capability of storing data in gigabytes. Most commonly computers today, come with a hard disk of around 40 to 200 GB, which is far greater than floppies, CDs and DVD’s.

Generally most computer users are using internal hard disks, but at the same time we can also use external hard disks for our convince.

We have hard disks in our computers today. We purchase these once with our computer, and they last for a long time period.

In the future the idea of hard disks will dramatically change. Hard disks will never come with PC’s, we will pay extra for the increase of our storing needs.

We will store our data on a huge server on the intranet, and this will be available to the entire globe. This could be an excellent idea and advantage, as it could rule out viruses and other common problems. All our data could be stored behind one major firewall.

The performance of a hard disk can be measured in two ways.

1) By data rate

2) Or by seek time

Data rate is actually the number of bytes that a hard disk can deliver to the CPU, while the seek time is the amount of time that a CPU can request the file to start being sent to the CPU. Transfer rate between 5 to 40 megabytes per second is normal.

Hard disks transfer different sort of files in different formats. For example they use ASCII codes for text files, and pixels for images and so on.
