Buying computers - Hard drive questions

Hard drive questions

You need to ask some computer hard drive questions for your next important question.

What size and speed is the hard drive in the computer?

You probably wont get much of a choice on the make of the hard drive what comes in your bundled computer system.

If you do however, go for a Maxtor or a western digital. These hard drives have become popular over the years and are probably now the leading manufactures in the hard drive industry.

If you are planning to work with large files, you may want to consider the new 10 000 rpm hard drives; however 7200 rpm will be fine for most users. Try not to go below this though as anything below is now slow and outdated. If you plan to work with DVD movies and movie files, such as creating divx movies, then you may want a fast hard drive to make the process run far quicker.

Another option is SCSI or fast Ata, however these types of hard drives are significantly larger in price.

For the size of the hard drive, you want no smaller than 40 GIG. This will serve the average user well. If you plan to download many files from the Internet, go for a 80 – 120 GIG hard drive.
