eVGA GeForce FX 5700 LE review

eVGA GeForce FX 5700 LE

OK, let’s be honest, this card doesn’t look too fancy. Unless you have an acrylic case though, nobody will know, and some of the nicer looking cards only look good on the side that doesn’t matter. Once they’re installed, you can’t usually see the fan side anyhow.

So what do you get for $130? Well, first, you have to understand who would get this card. Your average user wouldn’t want to pay this much for a video card when they can get one for $50 that will do everything they need. So what you are left with is a gamer on a budget.

That said, this card will play most of the games out there, albeat more slowly than you would think for a 256MB card. It’s built around a good graphics engine, the CineFX 2.0 pixel and vertex shader. It supports a very high resolution and a decent refresh rate at it’s highest setting of 2048 x 1536(85Hz). Most nVidia based cards feature easy driver upgrades, and this one is no exception.

My recommendation though is this, either spend a lot less on one of the other cheaper cards reviewed here, or spend a little bit more and get a card like the Sparkle GeForce 6600 GT. The route you take depends on what you’re doing with the card. If you are a serious gamer, save your pennies for something like a Radeon 9800 series, you won’t be disappointed. If you have a 15” monitor and play your games at fairly low resolution, this card isn’t a bad deal for the price.
