The Cd rom and the new dvd rom

The CD-rom is another peripheral device that is commonly used in the home or office computer.

With the help of this device we can insert different formats of CD’s in to our computer, for example Software’s, MP3’s, Movies and many more.

The CD-rom is mostly used for software installation purposes. We can easily install any software by just inserting the CD in to our CD rom drive.

The CD-rom depends upon three important parts

Out of these three parts the lens is the most sensitive device. It works with the laser beam technology. The laser beam passes through the polycarbonate layer, reflects off the aluminum layer, and hits an opto-electronic device that detects changes in light.

The hardest job is to keep the beam on the track. This job is performed by the tracking system. The tracking system also keeps the laser moving outward.

The Drive motor rotates between 200 to 500 rounds per minute depending upon the part, or number of tracks, which it is reading at one time.

Today the same principals that CD- roms operate are also performed by the DVD ROMs. This device is also similar to CD-roms but the functions are different regarding the storage capacity.

Dvds holds a lot more data than an ordinary cd, which results in crystal clear movies with excellent sound on one DVD disc.
