This Canon made it to my recommended list because of several notable features the other printers I reviewed didn’t posses. I must say that Canon is doing a great job quality wise on the photo printer market. This printer is so quiet, you might not know it’s printing. It works with the Mac, and I thought to put it in that section, but it’s photo quality is so good that I had to put it here. I’m seeing these for about $150, which is cheap for the instant gratification you’ll get by not having to go to the lab anymore. And if instant gratification is a high priority, rest assured that this printer will get you your photo the quickest.

As of this writing, this is the fastest, quietest, and highest quality photo printer available without going to a dedicated, photos only printer. It supports the new USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 (Macs and older PCs).

What it doesn’t have

The only thing missing on this printer was a parallel printer port. Any more, that is not a necessity, as USB is popular, faster, and easier to hookup, but those of you that don’t have USB need to be aware of this.

Important Benefits

One of the things you should look for in a printer is how easy it is to remove a paper jam. The i960 addresses this issue nicely by allow quick, easy access to the entire paper path from the rear. Any major jams can be easily removed. It also comes with a nice photo paper tray that mounts to the standard tray. This allows you to stack several 4” x 6” sheets of photo paper for printing albums.
