This printer is basically a stripped down utility printer. It’s a little faster then most inkjets, but it’s print quality is sacrificed, as it is a little lower then most ink jets.
It does not have a built in fax, but does have a program that will allow it to use your PCs built in modem.
I don’t like that it doesn’t have an automatic document feeder, but I do like that it can print directly from digital cameras or memory sticks. You should be able to pick one up for around $150.
HP OfficeJet 6110
At $150-300 (refurbished and new) this is definitely your higher end of the all-in-one printers. It is, however, a true all-in-one. It’s built to work more like a copier, so it should have it’s own stand. It has it’s own fax and the scanning element warms up very quickly. It is the fastest printing in color and b&w, of the three we’ve reviewed here. If you are in a home-office environment, I would recommend this printer in a heart beat, after all, it’s what I use.
Lexmark 1185If you are looking for a low end, no frills, temporary printer, you might be interested in this one. It’s very compact, and touts a 100 sheet feed capacity. It’s also equipped with USB 2.0, however, even with USB 1.0, your PC will send it data faster then it can output. Color quality is fair though, so budget minded users should at least consider it, with about an $80 street price. It would not make it on my desktop though.
