Wintergreen Intel Pentium Desktop PC review
The Wintergreen Intel Pentium provides a great computer for the cost. If you do not need a monitor as part of your package deal, this computer is the way to go. Boasting the Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor and 256 MB RAM, you have a great computer to work with. This computer is easily upgradeable and adding an additional 256MB RAM would be quick and painless for fairly cheap – providing a noticeable improvement in performance.
You can use my installing memory guide to easily upgrade memory.
The Wintergreen comes with Windows XP Home Edition, one of the newest Windows versions to date. It also comes with a 52x32x52 CD-Writer and a 40 GB hard drive, allowing you do download tons of songs and then copy them onto a CD. A keyboard and mouse are also provided.
On the computer are numerous ports (in the back) for 10/100 Mbps networking and several USB ports. There is also a port for the monitor and audio ports as well, allowing you to use your existing monitor and speaker’s right from the start. It also has all the standard serial, parallel and dial-up modem ports in the back as well.
The best aspect of the Wintergreen is the upgrade ability. It could easily be upgraded to 512 MB RAM or even 1GB RAM if you needed for fairly cheap. The hard drive should be fine for most users but that is easily upgradeable as well. For only $299.99 after mail-in rebate, you cannot ask for more! This computer makes an outstanding base computer that could be upgraded for cheap – cheaper than buying one already “upgraded.” It is easy to upgrade desktop computers, just check out my upgrade section to see what I mean.
The good aspect I like about the Wintergreen is the great price for what you get. It really makes a great computer that you know you can upgrade as soon as possible. The bad is that the RAM is a bit low for a computer running Windows XP, but, buying another 256 MB of RAM easily solves that. You may also want to upgrade the power supply from 300 watts to about, 400-500 watts if you plan to use a lot of drives and high-end components; although the 300 watts should suffice for most users.
