Sparkle GeForce 6600 GT

If you were worried that there was no mid-range gaming card, you can stop crying. Even if you’re on a budget, you can still get a card that will play Doom3 at high res, without having to pawn everything else in your bedroom.

Sparkle has taken the GeForce 6600 to very impressive levels. Halo proved no challenge even at high resolution, smoothly yielding 58fps (frames per second). Even turning on anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering at 1600x1200 pumped out 38fps.

Doom3 however, was a tougher giant to slay, with 55fps at 1280 x 1024. This is still a great score though, but you won’t be able to use anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, as it brings the card to it’s knees at 26fps.

Another drawback is the availability of resellers in the US. It was difficult to find the card here, but not impossible. With a product like this, I hope to see a clearer channel in the near future.

All in all, for the price of $160 for the 256MB version, this is a great deal for the gamer on a budget. There was one small drawback, the software. Don’t expect to get any exciting games. In fact, don’t expect any games at all. And don’t expect to get any real software either. The only thing that comes with it is a trial DVD player. I guess that’s how they cut the cost so low. If you already have great games to play, no problem.
