Operating systems and useful software

Now that you are going to buy a computer, we need to discuss operating systems and useful software for your computer. The software applications you obtain must be compatible with your computer. Once you have decided what operating system you are using you can select software packages based on this choice.

If your PC comes with software, don’t worry it just means you will basing your decisions around that. This is never a problem, as it will likely come with the latest most compatible operating system anyway.

If you plan to build a computer you will need to buy a retail copy of your preferred operating system, such as Linux or Windows XP.

If you are buying a computer pre built following this guide then the system will probably come with an operating system preinstalled.
