OEM – Original equipment manufacturer
The OEM computer terms are computer products, such as hard drives that may not be the same in quality and/or performance as a brand new product. OEM hardware can be extra stock that has been left behind.
I purchased an OEM hard drive, and after some testing, I found out this was a downgraded version of the normal product. The hard drives access times were at 12s, when they should have been around 6s.
OEM products can work fine, and generally are, however be aware, that you may get some minor performance issues.
Below are some important things to remember when purchasing OEM hardware.
The products will come with no box.
You will probably not get any cables or instructions.
They normally have little, in terms of support.
I have purchased many OEM products; most computer shops around here sell OEM by the bulk. You can often save money and get some bargain deals with OEM, just be cautious as regard everything discussed here.
