NIC term explained

NIC – Network Interface card

The NIC simply stands for network interface card. This is a normal network card, which normally uses the PCI slot in a computer.

Some of our reviews refer to NIC often, this simply means that the computer reviewed has or does not have, a network card.

Most new computers will come with a NIC as standard. When buying a laptop, Personally, I would make sure the laptop has a network port and NIC installed. This means you can plug your main desktop computer to the laptop, use a network cable, and have Internet access anywhere in the house. If you have supported wireless computers, you can do this without any wires!

If you are going to use the laptop as the main computer, you may need a network card to connect to certain types of broadband connections, so having a NIC card is always worthwhile.
