How can we stop messenger pop ups?

Messenger pop ups

These type of pop ups differ to the standard pop ups on the Internet found on websites. These types of pop ups are ads that pop up when your Internet browser has not been opened.

They are known as messenger pop ups and can be an issue in the NT versions of the Windows operating systems. If you are using Windows 95, 98, or ME, you will not come across these types of advertisements.

Companies use a net send command to send these ads to hundreds of NT operating systems.

You can solve this issue by simply deactivating this in your operating system.

To disable messenger, follow my steps below. This will not disable the Microsoft messenger service, so you can still chat to friends and family.

For Windows XP users

Click start/control panel/administrative tools. In the administrative tools window, you will find services. Find messenger within here, and double click messenger properties. Within messenger properties, set start-up type to disabled, and then click the button that says stop. Now, simply click the apply button and exit all windows.

For those of using windows 2000

Click start/programs/administrative tools. In the administrative tools window, you will find services. Find messenger within here, and double click messenger properties. Within messenger properties, set start-up type to disabled, and then click the button that says stop. Now, simply click the apply button and exit all windows.

Another alternative to the above is to configure your firewall to disable the NetBIOS and UDP protocols. This can be found within your firewalls help manual.
