MPEG is a compression that is widely used for turning audio and video into a physically smaller size. While achieving this, the MPEG format is renowned for maintaining high levels of quality in comparison to the original file.

Mpeg have 2 main file extensions for the video files.

You will probably come across them often when using the Internet. They are mpeg or .mpg.

Mpeg 1 is normally used for VCD file format video files, where as Mpeg2 is used in DVD motion picture, so people convert to formats such as SVCD in Mpeg2 compression.
