LPT – Line printing Terminal

This is the name given to a parallel port. Many persons used to ask me what I meant by the Lpt1 port, to simplify the name; it is mainly used as a printer port for a computer. Older printers use this connection to communicate with the computer.

These ports were originally designed for printers, however, today, there is a wide range of peripherals that will work well on the LPT ports.

I would say the LPT port is a sturdier option to USB connection in terms of compatibility and connection issues. I have seen more communication problems from USB ports then the old LPT ports.

If you notice, USB can be a little glitchy also. If you have a USB mouse, you may find that it will stop responding, and you have to re plug the mouse in. This is one of the issues with some of the USB chipsets.
