JPEG – Joint Photographics expert group
This is a widely used format for compressing images. With JPEG compression, you can maintain the quality of a picture and upload or transfer the image efficiently.
JPEG is popular with Internet users for its fast compression and it's ability to keep quality high.
Unlike Its cousin, GIF, JPEG can maintain thousands of colours. This makes it an ideal format for compressing high quality photographs.
JPEG can compress a file down to a manageable size and still maintain all of the quality. The sharpness will be slightly affected and you will lose some pixels, however this is largely unnoticeable.
This picture format uses the file extension of jpg or jpeg, and applications such as paint will open this type of file.
