Installation – Install

This term is used often in computing. Installation means installing to some thing on to your computer from a CD ROM or diskette. The files are copied from the diskette device to the computer. They are copied from the destination to the source. This means the files are installed to your hard drive.

When you install software, you will often be asked to restart the computer; this is so the installed software can update your computers registry, which results in the operating system realising new software has been installed. It will then assign certain file extensions and resources to the installed program.

When you a buy computer game, you must install the game before you can run it, the above explains why this is done. The same applies for almost every piece of software on the home computer.
