IBM ThinkPad X3 review

Model

IBM ThinkPad X3

The IBM ThinkPad X3 is a solution for ultra portability and lightweight. It is designed for users on the go, yet without sacrificing its performance.

The low-voltage Mobile Intel Pentium III processor running at 1.2GHz powers the system.

I wonder why IBM doesn’t consider the new Pentium M processor that is speedier and provides a better battery life. However, there is no contradiction on this because no matter what, ThinkPad X3 still fares well.

The reason why I said “no contradiction” is because of its total memory supplied. That’s 512MB of DDR266 (PC2100) memory, decent enough to run Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition operating system.

While the system comes with a 40GB hard drive, it has no internal optical drive in it. You would have to buy an external optical drive. I guess the reason this is done is because IBM wanted to reduce the weight of this machine, and make it as light as possible. Well, they reach their goal by producing this baby weight at 3.5 pounds.

Other than these, are the integrated Intel 830GM Graphics Controller, infrared port, LAN and modem support. You get a PC Card Type I/II slot, one Firewire port and two USB ports as well.

The 12” ThinkPad X3 may not be the most powerful horse, but it is reliable and speedy to run most programs. Take note that you have to get used with its track point system, since it doesn’t offer a touch pad.

The ThinkPad X3 is the answer to mobility. It’s cheap, offers high performance and is durable. Nothing can go wrong with IBM in terms of business class notebooks.
