This section of my buyers guide will show you some cheap monitors, which will work well at a low cost.
Your monitor is one of the most costly parts of a computer system. When people ask me to build them computers, I always ask them if they have a monitor they are happy with. If they say yeah its great because we can get a real good system for a really decent price, as we don’t have to worry about the cost of the monitor.
Most people think that the only thing that makes a decent monitor is the screen size. In my experience this is not the case. I am going to outline some features you may want to consider to make sure you are getting quality, as well as low cost for your monitor.
You will spend a lot of time looking at your monitor screen during your computer usage. This is where the features of a monitor come in to play.
The main feature of a cheap computer monitor – Resolution
I have covered this in a few sections of my site; I will quickly go over it here. This is the amount of pixels that are on your screen. So if you have your screen set at 800x600, then there are 800 pixels by 600 pixels on the screen. If you have a picture that is 700 pixels, you would be able to view the image in full detail with no loss of quality.
When you buy a monitor, in the specifications of the monitor, there will be a maximum resolution the monitor can handle. The higher this number is, the better the viewing experience will be for you.
What you need to consider if you are aiming at something low cost is, what will you use the computer for. Lets say you will only use the computer for emails and surfing the Internet, then a high resolution is pointless, and you could easily get on fine with a 15 inch monitor, thus saving you money. All the 15 inch monitors I have used go up to 1024x 768, which is fine for what I listed above.
The refresh rate
This is an important aspect on cheap computer monitors. This will help in preventing eyestrain. You want your monitor running at above 80 HZ for today’s resolutions. If your screen flickers, you need to adjust the refresh rate to prevent eyestrain and possible headaches. Check the monitor specifications to make sure it has high refresh rates.
Monitor size
The most popular talked about aspect of the computer monitor. You have a choice of many different sizes. The most popular today is probably the 17 – 19 inch monitor. If you can afford to get a bigger monitor, they come with higher refresh rates, higher resolution, and are are overall a better quality and viewing experience. If you’re interested in some prices for cheap computer monitors, you can find some excellent deals on 17-inch monitors online.
Dot pitch is also an aspect people talk about, however I generally don’t find it that important. The lower the dot pitch the better the quality as a general rule of thumb.
Getting the right cheap computer monitors can take time as with all other computer parts. With my buying guides, you should be able to get something you want faster. Remember to spend a little time looking for something to suit you. If your planning on using your computer for games and entertainment go for a big monitor, for general Internet net use, a 15-inch monitor should serve your purpose well.
